As a 6th degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, awarded by the legendary Carlson Gracie (1933 – 2006), Professor Marcos ‘Flexa’ is deeply rooted in the history of this martial art. Having served as the head coach of the renowned Carlson Gracie Academy in Rio de Janeiro for several years, he embarked on a journey across Europe and eventually settled in Amsterdam. Since then, for the past eight years, he has been imparting his knowledge and expertise, establishing a new academy in 2013. This new facility offers a more spacious training area, improved facilities, and a wide range of weekly classes.

Professor Marcos ‘Flexa’ stands among the highest-ranking black belts in Europe. Throughout his career, he has trained, competed, and taught alongside renowned figures in the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Daniël Bertina is a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and part of the Carlson Gracie lineage. He is the first student of Marcos ‘Flexa’ Neves to be awarded this rank. Daniël has been training in the martial arts since age 6, and has experience in several fighting styles. Before discovering BJJ in 2000, he trained extensively in Japanese Jiu Jitsu and Judo under sensei Karel Gietelink, and was awarded his black belt in Japanese Jiu Jitsu through the Judo Bond Nederland. Daniël’s first BJJ instructor, Mike Yanez of Team Popovitch, introduced him to Folkstyle Wrestling. He has been blending Wrestling with his BJJ ever since, along with basic Judo, and has consistently trained in the No-Gi, MMA and Self Defense variations of BJJ as well. Daniël is an active competitor in the middle weight division, but his real passion is teaching BJJ and helping people to grow in this fantastic art. He is available for private classes and occasionally teaches No-Gi on Saturday.

Olga started training in Judo and BJJ in 2005. She received her black belt in judo in 2010 and her black belt in BJJ in 2015. She won a gold medal in the World Master Jiu-Jitsu Championship in Las Vegas in 2016. She also won the 2012, 2013 and 2015 trials for the World Pro Jiu Jitsu Championships in Abu Dhabi. In 2013 as a purple belt she became a No-gi European Champion. In 2014 she won the brown belt open class at Rome International Open. In 2016 she was world champion in Las Vegas and also she won a bronze medal in the Black Belt open class at the European Championship in Lisbon. In 2018 won Silver in her division and Bronze in the Open Class in IBJJF European Champion.

The First Serbian Black Belt Promoted at Carlson Gracie Amsterdam.

[November 4th 2018] Today, Milovan ‘Misha’ Janjic was promoted to black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu by Marcos Flexa (black belt 5th degree) of Carlson Gracie Amsterdam. He is the fourth person ever to be awarded this prestigious rank. Misha is a dominant competitor and dedicated instructor, and he joins the black belt ranks with Daniël Bertina, Desmond van den Berg and Olga Lyashevska. Misha is also the first international black belt affiliate of Marcos Flexa, running the successful BJJ Caminho Team in his hometown of Kragujevac, Serbia.
